Highlights from my narrative, documentary, and commercial work up until 2023

The Painting is the latest short film by Rob Shearer. The film is about an Artist who is on the downward slope of his career. He was once a popular and successful painter but is now finding it difficult to sell his work. Even the Art Dealer that has been selling his work for years no longer wants to feature him in his gallery.

However, he is working on a new piece that is different than anything he has made before. The Dealer sees this work-in-progress and thinks there is a potential buyer for this unfinished painting. Unfortunately, the Artist is out of paint, and out of money to buy more. At the end of his rope, he decides to use his most dangerous resource: his own blood. Once he starts using his sanguine paint, his world starts to unravel around him, blurring the lines between reality and delusion.

With a talented cast featuring Clayton Cardenas and Angel Oquendo, and produced by Gina Triola, The Painting will be filmed in Spring 2024. My Father’s House is an award-winning* short documentary about Marcel Naruki, a pastor of a Lutheran church in Aurora, CO. The film follows him as he comes to terms with faith and failure as he witnesses the transformation of his house of worship into a home for the downtrodden.

Denizen is a documentary project that highlights the interesting and unique people of Denver. In homage to Humans of New York, I hope this project will reveal the stories and lives of the people of this city. Denizen is shown regularly on Colorado PBS.

In 2022, I was hired by Anderson Ranch, a prestigious art center in Aspen Colorado, to film and interview two visiting Latino artists. In addition to interviewing them, I was also able to spend time in their studios and capture them working.

This is a commercial I wrote and directed for Webroot Cyber Security to highlight their anti-virus software. I came up with several concepts, and this science fiction idea was their favorite. Produced by One Floor Up Productions in 2021.

This is another commercial I wrote and directed for Webroot Cyber Security to advertise their anti-virus software. I fleshed out the client’s original concept to show the value of their product for school-aged children. Produced by One Floor Up Productions in 2021.

In 2021, I was hired to direct and edit a 3 part documentary aobut Weber Grill’s two grill masters teaching at Texas A&M’s Camp Brisket. I had brisket for every meal for 5 days in a row, and I didn’t get sick of it once!

In 2021, Weber Grills hired me to travel the country and document different and diversely owned barbecue restaurants across the country. From San Diego to Denver to DC to Houston, I was able to capture the stories of people who make BBQ their passion.

"Anything Helps" is about two homeless men, Jansen and Matthew, who panhandle on the streets during the day, and share what they have received at night. Jansen and Matthew have created a symbiotic relationship that they both rely on, but once the friendship is unexpectedly broken, only a helping hand can save their lives.

"Anything Helps" is an Official Selection of the 2012 Starz Denver Film Festival, 2012 Big Bear Lake International Film Festival, and the 2013 Southern Colorado Film Festival.
